For the past five days or so I have been crashing on Tama and Miguel’s couch in Manhattan while I look for a place to live in Brooklyn. My surroundings here couldn’t be any different from what I’m used to in Western Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. Never before have I so acutely understood the contrast between the life that I have chosen to pursue, and the one that I have been living. Obviously this puts me into deep existential territory. So here I have a song about feeling threatened by the future only come to a new sense of resolve, emboldened by the new dawn that lies ahead. I had the help of my wonderful hosts. Miguel lent his ukulele and Tama lent her voice. Tomorrow or the next day, I’ll return to the forrest to ready myself for my move, and I’ll begin the process of closing down the current New England chapter of Mount Everest. Here we go!
lyrics
It takes you by surprise
When it grabs you by the neck
And it drags you down the block
Skipping every other step
And if you wonder what it feels like
Buying in to what comes next
Well this is it
What else did you expect?
But the sunrise is coming up
Right behind your eyelids
Don’t say that you ain’t seen it yet
Don’t tell me you don’t know
It takes you by surprise
When the camera fades to white
And the image opens wide
On a corner of your life
That you believed was just beyond you
That you’d fail to get it right
Now this is it
And there’s no place you could hide
But the sunrise is coming up
Right behind your eyelids
Don’t say that you ain’t seen it yet
Don’t tell me you don’t know
And your moment is coming up
Can’t leave it up to timing
Don’t say that you ain’t felt it yet
Don’t you tell me you don’t know
