Today I’ve got a tiny little song to commemorate something big. It’s not every week that somebody calls you on the phone and tells you news that changes everything. This week I got into grad school, and suddenly a hypothetical future became my actual future. I’m still not quite sure which school I’ll be attending, if and where I’ll be moving, or exactly the degree to which I will have to upend my existence, but one way or another, this life is going to stop and another one is going to take its place. The news put me into a quietly overwhelmed state for the past few days. Suddenly this is all precursor to something else. What does that mean? In any case, it sent me into an existential spiral the likes of which I haven’t been in for quite some time. A little exhausted from it, a tiny little tune seemed just the thing to calm me down again. Big news knocks you over even if it is good news. That is something that I just remembered this week.
Here’s hoping your Monday doesn’t totally suck.

lyrics
Wherever you go
Well, there you are
It’s the start of a concept
That’s hitting you hard
It’s the end of a chain of logic
Splits you apart
The occasion of good news
Goes right to your heart
It’s the end of prehistory
Now where do you start?
Like watching the future
Become the past
You can scratch at a moment
Make it last
Like an instant of sunshine
Gets right to your heart
As soon as it’s a memory
You tear it apart
At the foothills of Everest
So where do you start?
