I was digging tracks into the yard
Peeling out
No purpose to this art
But to get away yet again
To rest my head
Someplace else
The sun sets red
I was looking everywhere for you
No one’s seen you
Wondering what I’d do
If I ever saw you again
I’d probably shrink
Or just pretend
It’s for the best
Don’t roll your eyes
Don’t hesitate
It’s bleeding light
It’s must be late
Open your eyes
Goodness gracious
Everyone’s a saint
I lost my patience
Staring at this great divide
And it keeps us apart
What’s in your heart
And on your hands
It ain’t the same
Don’t roll your eyes
Don’t hesitate
It’s bleeding light
It’s must be late
Don’t roll your eyes
Don’t hesitate
It’s bleeding light
It’s must be late
Open your eyes
Everything you want
Maybe you could get it
Everything you need
Trying to forget it
Everything you know
Everything you ever hoped
At least you’ve got this one thing right
Everything you want
Trying to forget it
Everything you need
Maybe you can get it
Everything you know
Everything you ever hoped
At least you’ve got this one thing right

To start off with, I’d like to make a note about my tardiness today. It has been quite a while since this website promised that songs would be posted at any particular time on a Monday. Originally songs went up reliably at noon. Later I bumped it back to 3pm. Lately, songs have gone up any time between 11am and 4pm, with listeners able count on hearing them when they got home from work. Today’s song is posted after seven, but I want to assure you that I am not establishing a new precedent for when these songs will typically be released. It is my intent to return to a schedule of posting these songs in the afternoon, rather than in the evening. I’m sorry that I didn’t hit that mark today.
Todays song is about the forces that keep people apart, be they personal, political, geographic, economic, religious or otherwise. It is a bit vague, but just roll with it. In a rare turn for me, the music was far more important than the words today. The fingerpicked guitar and the backup vocals were my real voice on this tune.
