Notes: The last week has been tough here in Maine. Eighteen people were killed in a mass shooting about thirty minutes from my house. The senselessness of this event is an echo of so many other killings like it. But as too many people in too many places in America know by now, it feels different when it's close by. I have written too many songs of reflection following unthinkable national tragedies. I'm so mad and sad that this is still a problem that nobody seems to want to solve. I feel mostly numb when I try to summon something new to say on the subject. I wouldn't have written another song like this, but nothing else was on my mind. It's too close to look away from it just yet, so this song feels resigned and tired. That's how I feel. Still, I want to extend love to the people of Lewiston, and everyone else here in Maine. We live in a beautiful place and there is wonder yet to be found here.
lyrics
It could have been anyone
I'm trying to understand
The ways that it could have been different
It could have been anyone
It could have been anyone
It could have been anyone
It could have been anyone
It's quieter than it was
It's darker when evening come
And something has just become different
And it could have been anyone
It could have been anyone
It could have been anyone
It could have been anyone
