about

Notes: When I was young, the thing that animated me was creating stuff. At first it was drawing pictures. Later on, it was making music. I saw a spark and I chased it. It was easy for me. I had conviction in the pursuit. I had little in the way of barriers.

Over the years, I lost drawing. Of course I can still do it, but my conviction is gone. I don't draw. Losing it is a grownup numbness. First it was relegated to the sterile confines of graphic design work (not to say all graphic design work is sterile, but mine was), then my work became a strategic role instead, and now I don't even design anymore. My job ate that spark. Maybe I can get it back again someday. I'm more concerned with keeping up with the other spark, lest I lose them both.

These songs don't get enough of my time. Sometimes I dream songs and I can't grab onto them when I wake. Dream time is purely mine. It has been purchased by no company, and I owe it to no person. It's no wonder that I use it to chase that which animates me. Sometimes this project feels like an attempt to grab ahold of the songs that I dreamed I wrote. It's how I'm still chasing after the spark.

lyrics

Back when the day was new
All the dew on the grass in the field
That the light shone through

Child of the mind rejoice
See a spark
Chase it wild
Follow free
Revel in the choice

Forget as the day wears on
Or settle by degrees
Or go on to capture the spark

In the night listen to the wild
Listen good
Hear it growl
Hear it sing
Stop and think awhile

Then dream in a brilliant arc
Like the trail of the light of a spark
Is clearest in the dark

Forget as the dream winds down
Or wander off the trail
Or go on to capture the spark
