I'm playing with old themes, riffing on old melodies, and maybe even resurrecting old phrases that I've spun before. This may be a return to ideas that have anchored much of my previous work, but It is a return I'm pleased to welcome. I had a really nice time making up this song.
Certainly, I've already written of the longing one feels to reunite with one's love. I must have already punctuated that longing with imagery of the forest and the wind and the night. In the past, I've also done all this with a folksy lilt. Surely I've done all this. Still, here it is, new again.
lyrics
Some days I think of nothing
Except the motion of a breeze
Along a line that's winding westward
It's connecting you and me
If the wind picks up dear
One day soon
I could ride on an updraft
Could it carry me to you?
Could it carry me to you?
In the evening I go walking
Attuned to every little sound
I'm the cry above the canopy
And I'm the footfalls on the ground
I'm the moment of mercy
Between predator and prey
I'm out in the open
You could carry me away
You could carry me away
If the wind picks up dear
One day soon
I could ride on an updraft
Could it carry me to you?
Could it carry me to you?
And darling I know nothing
About the story of the moon
But I want to be up there
Just me and you
Beneath the night of the forest
We could light the way through
We could light the way through
When the wind picks up dear
One day soon
I'll ride on the updraft
It'll carry me to you?
It'll carry me to you?
