I'm out in California visiting my brother and his family, ending a two and half year separation exacerbated by the pandemic. Being apart from them, and in particular missing my nephews as they grow, has been quite hard for me. It's so wonderful to finally put an end to that!
As I often like to do when I travel, I cranked out three tunes in one go as I prepared to leave, starting with last week's and ending with next week's. These songs are a set, both musically and thematically. They each have something to do with the end of isolation, and the sense that things are changing. They are each a quiet attempt to locate the current moment in which the world is trying to open up, and individuals are rubbing their eyes in the brightness of living in the sun once again.
lyrics
I been hunkered down
Never know what all the fuss was about
I've never been the light in the dark
I never thought much about living apart
From everyone else
And things can change
In fact they always do
And I been out in the sun
And I never the time had begun again
I've never been the light in the dark
I never thought much about living apart
From everyone else
And things can change
In fact they always do
And people change
They always do
And things will be different
Pretty soon
