It's a common consensus that we are living through a historically significant moment. Obviously. It's strange to think about history, and to cast this era in the leading role. I wrote this song thinking about looking backwards at today, imagining the benefit of hindsight, assuming the arrogance of knowing better without having lived through any of it, romanticizing today's hardships, superimposing a yet-to-be-written morality upon our thoughts and deeds. That's what we do when we look at the past. It's how we understand ourselves, where we've been, and where we want to go. I wish we knew what they will know about us then. There could be a lot less fumbling around looking for the answers in the meantime.
lyrics
They'll read about it in the history books
What do I feel about that?
They'll line up to watch the worst of this
What do we need with that?
Every morning at the break of day
Another hundred years go by
They'll argue all about mistakes we made
Couldn't we see back then?
They'll crack the codes of our morality
Shouldn't we know by now?
Every morning at the break of day
Another hundred years go by
There they go
