I've been compelled so many times, particularly within the past year or so, to write about time, and to reflect upon my relationship to the past and the future. In some ways, it has felt like we've been living in some kind of a no-time. We have the past to remember, and the future to anticipate, but if we're not careful it can feel like there isn't any now for us.
If there isn't any present to hold onto, the past is easiest to picture. Memory isn't exactly reliable, but in broad strokes we can recall what has happened and what we have done. The future is a mystery. It is dangerous and unknown, so I find myself looking at old photos and dwelling in moments long resolved.
It would be best, of course, to recommit to the moment we're in, and to treat it as the treasure it truly is.
lyrics
Looking deep into the past
I can see
In the crater of the blast
There's a seed
Darling while I'm looking back
Stay with me
I'm a lost and lucky one
Even so
When all my moments in the sun
Finally go
I'll meet the evening then become
Goodness knows
Cast the moment to the sky
Looking back and wondering why
I pick a memory and I forget
To linger linger there
The wildflowers on your dress
I'm in the air
I went spinning I confess
I wasn't there
I've been waiting on the line
Between the dirt and the divine
Cast the moment to the sky
Looking back and wondering why
