about

Hey gang! Happy holidays, seasons greetings, et cetera! This is a simple song. Not only is the song simple, but the way I made it was extremely simple. Even amongst the extensive catalogue of acoustic tunes that have bubbled up from time to time during my Mount Everest years, there hasn’t been a single song on this website that was made in such a straightforward fashion. That is to say, there was one man, one voice, one guitar, and one microphone. I wish I could say that it was completed in only one take, but that would be dishonest. I had to take a couple of whacks at it. I didn’t fuss around with overdubs, or pitch correction (every modern singer’s dirty little open secret), or harmonies, or anything like that. I didn’t even really tune my guitar… I just pointed my mic at myself, and I put this song into it. It was a utilitarian necessity, born out of my pressing need to make it to the bus on time, but I think it fits with the spirit of the song, which is dropping you’re preoccupations, and letting yourself get home and just be there.

Things to look forward to: I’m hoping to round out 2013 with a song featuring a very special guest performer. My big brother, Eben, is here, and he’s brought his bagpipes and celtic whistles with him! What will happen? Nobody knows! Also, with an extended break from my studies at hand, I’m hoping to be able to devote more time to upcoming songs than I’ve been able to spare in recent months. After the new year, look forward to a few weeks of slightly more tricked out, possibly more ambitious songs here at Mount Everest. I’m also hoping to dive back into the artwork on this site for a little while. You’ve all been very kind in not calling me out on blatantly instagramming the last four months worth of album art!

All the best to you and yours! Be safe, happy, kind, and merry!

lyrics

Leave the light on hold the phone
Tell the folks I’m comin’ home
Drag my feet another mile
I’m on my way to stay a while
I should have known
That part of me I left at home

It starts in your bones
Tell them all I’m on my way

Stomach full of angry bees
Shake them out into the trees
Thoughts that get you riled high
Lose them in the evening sky
Though I’ve grown
Something for me waits at home
It starts in your bones
Tell them all I’m on my way

I’m tellin’ strangers in the street
I’m tellin’ everyone I meet
Head to a place that knows its worth
Where folks can kneel and touch the Earth
With folks who know
What it means to feel you’re home
It starts in your bones
Tell them all I’m on my way
Tell them all I’m on my way home
