I recently ran into a person that I know who seems to be at a crossroads. She is the type of person who always seems to be in the midst of an identity crisis. Right now she appears to be torn over what she wants and who she wants to be. I think her concept of the meaning that she brings to the world is wrapped up in a unwillingness to admit her own creative power, and it makes me sad to see her struggle with that concept. The reason it makes me sad is that she is an exceptional talent, and exceptional talent can’t find room to breath if it is being choked by a lack of confidence. To develop one’s talent, one has to make the emotional leap that one’s creative voice has something valuable to say. In a real sense, becoming an artist and making one’s purest art is dependent on calling one’s self an artist, and tenaciously holding onto that label. So this song is for all of you artists who don’t know yet what you are. I hope you can find it within yourselves to understand the value in your own perspectives.
lyrics
You could have a moment
Better than carrying on
And you should be a poet
Pushing my favorite song
And what’s the use?
You should have said what you mean
And I get what you’ve put you through
This I’ve seen
And you should lighten up
You know what to be, yeah
You can be an artist
If you just say that you are
Or you could be as guarded
As putting up razors and bars
And what’s the use?
It don’t seem like what you need
There’s a continent to you
Don’t you see?
And you should lighten up
You know what to be, yeah
And you could be an artist
If you just say that you are
