I had another very productive night last night! That’s what I try to do with my nights, because I am a hopeless night owl, and depending on who you ask, I suffer from life threatening sleep disorders including, but not limited to hardly ever sleeping at all. I was up all night trying to get a handle on a final project that I’m working on for this course I’m taking at the local university, and I also managed to pluck out a nice little tune about trying to make your sleep schedule just like everybody else’s. For me that is a hard proposition. The song describes pretty accurately my way of rationalizing the merits of doing life like everybody else does, trying it out for a while, and unwittingly failing not to stay up for most of the night. It is a bargaining cycle that I attempt all of the time, and one way or another I lose, because if I’ve got something I need to get done, or thinking I need to do, night is the time when I’m on. And I’m really on at night.
I really should have used last week’s photo today. While they are both morning shots, and therefore appropriate for this song, the sun peaking above the trees really would have fit this tune. Oh well.
lyrics
And in the morning
You were out of sorts
So lifeless next to the kitchen door
And in your hand
The door knob's heavy weight
Feels like a work of art
The other side to contemplate
And you just stand
And think about the night
The morning, it ain't yours
How sinister you find the light
And tell yourself
It's just the thing to do
Just prop yourself up in the doorway
And you'll tumble through
Confounded
You had it right
The harsh light of morning
The still of the night
And in your heart
You play at subterfuge
The sun is up today
It's shining down on something huge
But like a friend
The night appeals to you
It knows your states of mind
The little ways a friend can do
And in the evening
When its getting late
This is the only time of day
Seems you can concentrate
And in the morning
You're still thinking when
It hits you that you've gone
And let the clock go round again
