Notes: The other day some friends and I pulled over at Screw Auger Falls in Grafton Notch State Park here in Maine. The Bear River was high, and we wanted to see how hard the falls might be raging. What I saw was a stupefyingly deadly churning gyre of water and rock. Naturally, my thoughts immediately turned to my own certain doom, were I to make a poorly calculated move on the slippery terrain. Those thoughts begat the lyrics for this song, which has found its place among six previous River Songs, now tallying one for every one hundred entries of this weekly songwriting project.
As always when I crest another hundred songs, I like to make some important acknowledgements. Thanks to my parents, my family, my collaborators, my friends, and anyone who has ever stopped by to listen to a song. Thanks most importantly to my wife, Rebecca, who is currently attending to bed time without me at this very moment. Since the birth of our son, she has gone out of her way to empower me with the time I need to keep this project going. It is only because of her that I reached this milestone. Thank you Rebecca, I'll love you until I die, and maybe even after that depending on whose book turns out to be right. You're the very best!
